What shade are you? A guide to choosing the foundation that's right for you!

Oh no!, my face is lighter than my neck....those were the words of a lady after she had a "face beat" done for her by a makeup artist (not me).  As a woman, I know that we were all beautifully and wonderfully made and nothing makes a woman feel bad as the feelings of low self esteem.  We, as women, come in several innumerable skin shades, tones and texture. All in all, each person is unique and there is no universal way of choosing a face foundation.  For this reason, due diligence has to be applied when choosing a face foundation.  The myth out there is that, there are no foundations which will perfectly blend into the face.  The truth of the matter, however, is that there are several foundations which will blend perfectly into your face and provide you with a flawless coverage that you desire.  Also against the popular notion that many of the foundations out in the market are mainly for not so dark-skinned ladies, there are still lots of products in the market that will match and blend perfectly even into the darkest of skins.

Today, I would like to focus my attention on +MAC Cosmetics, not for being the best, rather it's the fact that I trust their products and feel absolutely comfortable using them on myself and my clients inclusive, unless otherwise requested.

Mac Cosmetics foundation come in different textures (liquid, cream or compact) shade range (NW and NC) and shade colors which ranges from 10 to 58 (lightest to darkest).

Your choice of either liquid or compact foundation depends on your preference, as both will generally satisfy your requirement of flawless coverage.  Liquid foundation, however, is my preference for working with my clients especially because the coverage last longer than compact foundation and generally conceals facial blemishes better, in my opinion.

To properly apply your foundation, you need a very good powder brush. Your foundation powder comes with an application puff.  However, you are strongly advised not to use the puff, rather, you should invest in a good brush if you'd like even and flawless coverage.  The foam usually "cakes" up your compact powder after some time and also aids in the transfer of germs from your face to the powder and vice-versa.  There are several powder brushes out there but I just recently found out about +Sigma Beauty brushes which are an excellent alternative to +MAC Cosmetics brushes.  I must actually confess that +Sigma Beauty brushes are of very good value for your money and I am definitely sticking to them.  That being said, whatever type of brush you choose to use, solely depends on you and the type of effect you are trying to achieve on your face. Your quality brush enables you to properly set your powder on your face for a flawless finish.  On your special occasion, you want to look as natural as possible while being gorgeous.

The type of foundation texture that you choose is not the real problem, it's the shade range and color. So for Mac's powder, the NW foundation (warm) should be used by women with "red undertones" in their skin while the NC foundation (cool) should be used by women with "yellow undertones" in their skin.

Take a closer look at your skin, if you think you are more of red than yellow, then you should choose NW next time you are at the +MAC Cosmetics counter.  If you believe you are more of yellow than red, you should definitely choose NC. Depending on how light or dark you are, the lightest shade range for Mac is 10 while the darkest is 58.

Once you choose your right foundation shade along with your quality brush, you are just ready for your flawless finish!!!.

Enjoy!
